Are you afraid of failing in interviews because you feel you're not good enough? Are you afraid to raise a new PR (Pull Request) on GitHub because people will judge your code? Are you afraid to write a blog post because people won't like it? Are you afraid to go to the gym because people will see your bad shape? If you answered yes, I want to tell you're not alone.

I've got a confession to make. My answers are yes to the above questions; I have a fear of failure. While writing this post, I'm asking myself, "Will people like it?" "Will people judge my writing because I'm writing in my second language?" I'm not too fond of this feeling; I know one of the ways to grow is to fail. It's called experience.

I believe that the first step of solving a problem is addressing it. Thus, I'm sharing my awareness about the situation and working on improving it. I know I can improve this problem by embracing failure and making peace with it.

Self-doubt

While I'm writing this post, I have thoughts about fear of failure. As part of getting better, I have counter thoughts. Plus, I'm trying to see how other people deal with it. I found that native English speakers find it challenging to write as well. They fix their problem by embracing failure. They know that maybe they'll fail, so what they're doing is keep writing. So I'll keep posting and improving my writing skills.

Weight Lifting

One of my favorite sports is weight lifting. When it's time to exercise, it's my zone/time. It's time to put on the headphones, listen to metal music, and pump my muscles. After a while, I realized that the core of weight lifting is muscle failure. You are exercising so that your muscles fail to lift the weight. Basically, you are going to the gym to fail. What happens after you fail? Here is when the magic happens. Your body starts to rebuild/recover from the failure by building bigger & stronger muscles. After the recovery, your muscles can handle more weights, so you can feel the difference the next time you go to the gym. That keeps going on and on. Marvelous, isn't it?

Growth

If you ask successful people about their failures, you'll find they see it as a growth opportunity. Like the muscle growth cycle, if you embrace the failure and take care of the recovery period by learning from it, you'll grow. That's why one of the most critical team characteristics is a safe place to make mistakes, where they embrace failures.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I want to say that failure is part of the process. It's a part of life. It's a part of growth. It's a part of learning. It's a part of everything. So embrace it and learn from it. Don't be afraid to fail; it's the best teacher you'll ever have. I hope this post helps you to embrace failure. I know it helped me. I want to thank you for reading this post. If you have any thoughts, please share them with me. I'm open to feedback and suggestions. Let's grow together.
